Closing the 2025/26 Financial Year with Pride

As we close the 2025/26 financial year, the Fund is proud to highlight a significant
milestone that reflects the strength, growth, and sound financial management of
MEPF.

Over the past year, the Fund has experienced strong growth in its total asset value:

This represents remarkable growth of R4.7 billion within one financial year.

The continued growth of MEPF’s assets demonstrates that the Fund remains
financially strong, well-managed, and positioned for the future.

A growing Fund means a more secure future for our members and their families.

2025/26 Claim Statistics – Our Commitment in Action

This financial year, MEPF paid:

Pensioner Bonuses – A Guaranteed Commitment

One of MEPF’s proudest differentiators is our commitment to Defined Benefit
pensioners.

2025/26 Bonus Payout:

R38 Million Paid in Annual Bonuses (13th Cheque)

For our Defined Benefit pensioners, this bonus is guaranteed annually — a
meaningful financial boost during challenging economic times.

This is not common in many funds.
It is a powerful testament to MEPF’s financial management and long-term
sustainability.

2026 Benefit Statements – What to Expect

MEPF issues one Benefit Statement per financial year.

As we conclude the financial year:

  • The Fund will undergo an independent audit that commences after 01 March
    2026.
  • The audit process may take up to six months.
  • Once finalized, 2026 Benefit Statements will be made available.

We appreciate your patience as we complete this important governance process.

Budget Speech (2026 - Updates)

Pension contributions

  • You can now save more with the retirement fund deduction being raised to
    R430 000 from R350 000
  • This simply means you have a bigger tax-free amount to fund your pension
    fund.
  • For DC members, you can increase your contributions to take advantage of
    the increased contribution deductions.

Retirement Interest De Minimis

  • The De minimis has been increased to R360 000 from R247 000
  • That means if your balance in the retirement pot is under R360 000, including
the two-thirds of the vested pot for those that have it, you can withdraw your
pension fund in full at retirement.

APPRECIATION TO OUR MUNICIPAL STAKEHOLDERS

None of this would be possible without:

  • Our dedicated Members
  • Pensioners and Beneficiaries
  • HR Departments
  • Payroll Officials
  • Municipal Leadership
  • Trustees and Management
  • Service Providers

Together, we continue to strengthen MEPF’s legacy.

As we close 2025/26, we do so with confidence — not because of promises made,
but because of promises kept.
