Important Legal Update: Court Ruling in Favour of MEPF

Dear MEPF Members,

The Municipal Employees Pension Fund (MEPF) is pleased to report a favourable outcome in an urgent court application enrolled in June 2025. The matter was brought before the court on an urgent basis in terms of Rule 6(12) of the Uniform Rules of Court.

In its judgment, the court declared that the respondents were in breach and wilful contempt of the court order previously granted by Honourable Acting Justice Raubenheimer, dated 14 June 2025. The contempt persisted for the period of 14 to 24 June 2025.

The court has ordered that the respondents, jointly and severally, are to bear the costs of the application on a punitive scale – specifically, as between attorney and client – including the costs of two counsel.

This ruling reinforces MEPF’s commitment to ensuring compliance with lawful directives and upholding the integrity of its operations. The Fund will continue to act decisively in protecting the interests of its members and ensuring accountability.
